Intrigued by the idea of Rituals for healing, and hoping for support and connection around establishing your individual routines?
Strategy #1: Connection To Self
- listen to a guided meditation
- develop a journaling practice
- favorite warm beverage and a daily meditation book
- breathwork practice
- create a little sanctuary spot in your home
- bath or shower (not for leaving the house, but just for that moment to pause and be present/nurtured)
- explore your emotions…feeling the need to cry, laugh or scream? Consider leaning into the emotion with the help of music, a movie, or show.
- tune in to a food your body is craving and take the time to prepare that food for yourself
- pause to mindfully use hand or body lotion
- write and regularly read/repeat a list of personal mantras, manifestos or non-negotiables that feel important to you at this time
- ask yourself how you are, take the time to answer honestly, and find a small act/practice to provide nurturing in response to what you find to be true
Strategy #2: Connection with Others
- practice being fully present in a conversation
- make it a habit to nurture healthy relationships
- reach out to friends/family via text to let them know you are thinking of them
- invest in FUN with others
- give compliments
- express gratitude regularly
- play games or share hobbies
- remember that “others” can also mean our pets!
Strategy #3: Connection with Community
- be mindfully aware of even briefly connecting with others (a smile, a hello, a laugh) in stores and while out and about.
- create a practice of serving others by volunteering your time
- attend local farmers markets or events
- identify a support group or club, whether online or in-person, and become an active member
- attend workout or yoga classes and/or group learning or art-based events
- build community by shopping small…get to know shop owners
- offer random acts of kindness
- consider subscribing to our online Grief Ritual Substack community…coming very soon!
Strategy #4: Connection with Nature
- take daily or regular walks
- pause to observe a sunrise, sunset, birds in trees or the movement of nature
- start or tend to a garden or outdoor space
- practice “earthing”
- explore new hiking trails
- stargaze
- visually track the moon phases
- help to clean or preserve natural spaces
